Has Wicker Park's Beloved Double Door Been Evicted ?

February 6, 2017 - Today marks a sad day in the neighborhood. After 23 years in Wicker Park, it appears the much-beloved club and music venue Double Door may have been evicted from their location at 1572 N. Milwaukee Avenue. According to reports, a Cook Country Sheriff arrived at 11:30am to post "No Trespassing Signs" and a locksmith arrived a short time later to change the locks at the venue.

Club owners and the landlord have been involved in a contentious court-battle since 2015. A judge ruled the Double Door could stay in their location while an appeal was being filed; pursuant to a monthly rental payment of $26,000 month

Shows and special events have been booked through April 27, 2017. Neither the club owners nor the landlord have been available for comment.

As this court battles have ensued, owners Sean Mulroney and Joe Shanahan have been working to relocate the club to Logan Square.  The people who own and run this venue are some of the nicest community-oriented people we've ever known. In addition, the team at Double Door has never hesitated to step up and help the community whenever they could. This truly is a loss to the neighborhood in so many ways.

And, as always, we will keep you posted.
