2 NEW Wicker Park Restaurants Opening Soon

Michael Hamrick - Wednesday, May 15, 2013

MAK Restaurant - Chicago, ILImage courtesy of MAK via Facebook

A number of new restaurants are opening in Wicker Park and Bucktown this year. But these 2 spots look like they're opening very soon...and we're looking very forward to both.

MAK- 1924 W. Division Street - Wicker Park

MAK has moved into the former home of Renegade Craft and will focus on healthy Asian fare and locally sourced food. The paper is off the windows. Chefs have been testing the menu and they're hiring their staff. We do have a call in to MAK and anticipate they will be open by the time Do Division arrives May 31st- June 2nd.

Mott Street - 1401 N. Ashland Avenue - Wicker Park

The team behind the very successful Ruxbin is opening a 2nd spot in the former home of MC Restaurant. What can you expect to find at Mott Street? Late night street food that combines influences from all over the world. They are also working on an outdoor space that may include a farmer's market, vegetable garden and outdoor movies.

We spotted the chefs in the kitchen of this resto last night so an opening looks like it's just around the corner.

We will keep you posted.

Wicker Park's Links Taproom To Feature Beer and Sausages

Michael Hamrick - Friday, May 03, 2013

We reported last year that Bin Wine Cafe had closed at 1559 N. Milwaukee Avenue and today DNA Info has confirmed that a new craft beer bar will be opening in its place.

The new space is currently operating under the name Links Taproom and according to today's report, managing partner Mike Quinlan has provided a few details about the new space:

"Links Taproom will feature 32 American beers on tap, 4 cask beers, 4 tap wines and large format bottled beer list meant for sharing. Links will serve house-made sausages and hand-cut fries from our kitchen..."

Although it was reported earlier that Bin Wine Cafe was re-concepting into more of a gastropub, it is unclear from today's report whether the team behind Bin Wine Cafe is still involved in this new bar. Look for Links Taproom to open late Summer or early Fall.

Le Colombe to Open 2nd Chicago Location in Bucktown

Michael Hamrick - Thursday, May 02, 2013

 - La Colombe in the West LoopPhoto of West Loop location: Crain's

With locations currently in New York, Philadelphia, Seoul and Chicago (955 W. Randolph), Le Colombe is currently working on opening a brand new cafe in Bucktown. The specific location has not yet been disclosed but according to an article published in Crain's Chicago Business it will be close to the Damen Blue Line El stop and will offer no wi-fi so the focus can remain on the coffee.

The Chicago Le Colombe Team also says the new spot will have ample seating and they are looking to partner with an acclaimed pastry chef who will work with both Chicago locations (Bucktown/West Loop).

Interesting that the specific location hasn't been disclosed yet but the build out is underway. We will let you know as soon as we know. Look  for Le Colombe to open in Bucktown in September.

The Smoke Daddy Addition Is Open In Wicker Park

Michael Hamrick - Monday, March 25, 2013

Wicker Park, March 23, 2013

We popped our head in last week to see the final finishing touches being put into place. But the addition is open and is filled with lots of windows for an open and airy feeling.

A garage door is still going to be added to the front of the building and will be wide open in the Summer. The patio will be filled with seating in those warm months (if they ever arrive this year).

Smoke Daddy is located at 1804 W. Division Street in Wicker Park.

Under the Paint at La Pasadita---Wow !

Michael Hamrick - Wednesday, March 20, 2013

On Monday we received information by way of twitter that showed a building at 1141 N. Ashland formerly the home of one of the La Pasadita restaurants. The paint is being removed.

What was under the paint? This incredible logo from the 1930's era according to Grub Hub.

Apparently Snappy Services System was not unlike a White Castle and preceded McDonald's and Burger King. We're not sure what's moving in but if you want to catch a glimpse of this point in history, you should do so very soon.

Opening March 2013 in Wicker Park, Takito Kitchen will be a modern day taqueria featuring Mexican-inspired cuisine created by Executive Chef/Partner David Dworshak (Carnivale, Spring).

Menu highlights will include seasonal shared plates, ceviche, tacos, soups and more. The focus will be on fresh ingredients and complex flavors all tucked inside

a homemade tortilla.

Diners might expect to see the following menu items: Avocado Pine Nut Puree with pickled garlic, chile piquin and piloncillo, Yucatecan Style Chicken Soup with plantains and recado verde, and a Lamb "Queso Fundido" Taco with jicama escabeche and serrano herb salsa in a fresh tortilla made from locally sourced corn.

Chef Dworshak is looking forward to sharing Takito's menu with Chicago. "Our food will be seasonal and will support local farmers and producers. Our main focus of artisanal tacos lends itself to endless possibilities of ingredients, accompaniments and salsas. Aside from tacos, our plates will be intended for sharing, geared towards a more creative and healthier style of Latin American food."

Focusing on craft cocktails, the Takito drink program is designed by Beverage Manager/Partner Adam Weber (Trencherman, Mercadito, Roka Akor) and will feature cocktails centered around various high-end tequilas and rum in addition to Latin beers, wines and sangria. Highlights include the Tamarindo made with fresh cilantro, chipotle peppers, tamarind juice and cocoa infused tequila and El Jefe, a stirred drink meant for sipping, made with Mezcal, coffee liqueur and ginger.

Takito plans to serve bottled, house made agua frescas and possibly sodas, sealed with their signature logo bottle cap.

The space will be industrial and modern featuring an open bar and kitchen and will offer seating for approximately 75 people. Designed by D+K Architects and Interiors, the room includes an old skylight, long-cement bar, handcrafted maple benches, distressed cedar wood tattered with ebony stains, street art by local Chicago graffiti artists, and custom antique-style lighting. "The open bar and kitchen design will allow Adam Weber and I to closely interact with our guests providing them with a heightened dining experience." says Chef Dworshak.

Lillie's Q Destroyed By Fire - Wicker Park

Thyra DeCicco - Friday, March 15, 2013

Wicker Park - March 15 2013

Last night after midnight we received a photo from one of our Twitter followers showing 4 firetrucks on North Avenue. The fire was at Lillie's Q in Wicker Park at 1856 W. North Avenue. According to a report published this morning via the Chicago Tribune, the restaurant has been destroyed.

The following was published on the Lillie's Q Facebook Page this morning:

We come to all of you with heavy hearts this morning. Last night after our Bucktown restaurant closed, a fire broke out down in our basement. The fire started from a hot water heater down in the basement. There's been significant fire damage to the restaurant and to the apartments upstairs. Thankfully nobody was injured in the restaurant or in the apartments upstairs. Our Bucktown location and our Chicago French Market location are closed indefinitely. We're so grateful for all the outpouring of support from everyone. We'll be back somewhere, somehow, and someway.
