WICKER PARK'S GREEN MUSIC FEST 2016 Announces 1st Wave of Line-Up

With the addition of a 3rd stage to commemorate its 8th anniversary, Wicker Park’s Green Music Fest continues to grow and reflect the progressive and eco-minded community. And, as always, the mix behind this year’s event on June 18 and 19 is one-part eco-living, one-part live music.  Green Music Fest encourages everyone to lead sustainable lifestyles by pairing culturally relevant musicians and environmentally-friendly programming alongside vendors championing green technology and products, naturally-inspired arts and craft, interactive pet and family-friendly, plenty of ecologically-crafted beer by Lagunitas.

Green Music Fest stands apart from other music festivals because of its attention to sustainability and social activism. Besides the top notch entertainment, Green Music Fest reminds attendees that if recycling and composting can be done at a street fest, it is also possible at the workplace and home too.

The Green Music:
At its core, however, Green Music Fest is a music festival.  All three stages in 2016 will feature non-stop live music, everything from local up-and-comers to national touring acts.  Wave one bands include the following acts (with additional bands to be communicated at a later date):

Black Joe Lewis
King Khan & The Shrines
Langhorne Slim

The Green People Powered Bike Stage:
Since 2014, cyclists have been providing the natural wattage for the music at Green Music Fest’s People Powered Bike Stage.   Cycling teams, spinning instructors and bike enthusiasts alike will power the South stage’s amps, guitars, spotlights and everything else that needs juice.  How it works is simple: eight stationary bikes are plugged into a special generator, and the faster people pedal, the more energy they create for the entertainment.

The fest’s producer, Subterranean, has a goal of registering 500 volunteers – from experienced cyclists to novices – to man shifts lasting anywhere from 10 minutes long to a couple of hours.  Attendees interested in signing up to be a People Powered Bike Stage rider must email  In addition to the People Powered Bike Stage, free bike valet parking will be offered throughout the weekend as well as other ways to participate and empower Chicago's cyclist community.

The Green Vendors & Activities:
Throughout the green vendor village, visitors can: find out how to save money and make their homes more efficient, buy local fresh and organic foods; explore interesting and unique, environmentally-friendly crafts and products; and much more.  Food vendors are required to use compostable single-use food service-ware and 'virgin' paper items are prohibited. Bottled water is not sold, but water refill stations are conveniently located at every bar.

The Green Family Fun Fest:
The Green Family Fun Fest at Green Music Fest is a fest-within-a-fest that provides lots of fun-filled memories and green children’s activities throughout the weekend (from noon to 5 pm each day), including: recycled arts & crafts, DIY musical instruments, henna artists, bounce houses, mini-golf, a kiddie play area, and children's musical programming.

The Green Fine Print:
There is a $5 suggested donation for admission to Green Music Fest.  Location: Damen between North and Schiller.  Hours of operation on both June 18 and 19: noon to 10 pm (Green Family Fun Fest hours are noon to 5 pm both days).  The event is dog-friendly (with leashes).  The current event beneficiaries are Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce, West Town Bikes, Working Bikes, New Leash On Life, Climate Cycle, and Wicker Park Parents' Association.

Green Music Fest 2016 is sponsored in part by: Subterranean, Lagunitas, Whole Foods, 93XRT, WPB SSA#33, Bright Beat, carhartt, Criterion Productions, Redstone Meadery, West Town Bikes, Green Shop, Working Bikes, Wicker Park Parent’s Association, and New Leash on Life.
