When you think of little neighborhood gem, you think of Mariscos El Veneno just 2 blocks south of Division on Ashland. This super casual neighborhood eatery is a surprise. At first glance, you might think it's a traditional Mexican restaurant. But it's not. It's actually a seafood restaurant serving its entrees with Mexican flair.

You'll find everything here from stuffed lobster tails to stuffed crabs, crab legs, prawns, octopus, red snapper, oysters and more. Tilapia and shrimp tacos are also available and every meal starts with complimentary Marlin ceviche.

The portions are large and the Langostinos Estilo Nayarit (prawns) is served in a delicious combination of spices including lots of garlic. Mariscos El Veneno is byob but there are limits as to how much wine they allow per person.

Also, on occasion, a mariachi band serenades the diners.

The only warning to diners: the salsa which is hot hot hot says The Michelin Guide Review.
