Former Alinea Employees Open The Doorstep in Wicker Park

That dirty little corner of Wicker Park filled with pigeons at Ashland, Division and Milwaukee Avenue is finally getting a burst of new life. As first reported by Our Urban Times, three former employees of the Alinea Group (Next, The Aviary) have opened up shop in the Polish Triangle. Nestled in between the cab stands, bus stops and the Division Street "el" station, The Doorstep is open now and offers commuters, residents and visitors alike a quick and easy way to grab quality food and coffee. Open from 6am-5pm during the week and 8am-1pm on weekends, The Doorstep offers an array of breakfast bites like Lox & Bagels (featuring Nova lox, cream cheese, tomato, cucumber and red onion) or Avocado Toast (avocado toast, aleppo pepper, finger lime).

Lunch options include a Chicken Bahn Mi (soy-glazed chicken, jalapeno, pickled carrot, daikon radish, cucumber, sriracha mayo, cilantro), The Cuban (Mojo marinated pork shoulder, ham, swiss, pickle, yellow mustard. Pressed.) and Grilled Cheese among other things.

For drinks, you'll find Bowtruss Coffee and Mighty Leaf Tea.

The white food truck covered in faux ivy is a permanent full-time food kiosk/concession not a traveling food truck so you'll find it in the Polish Triangle every day. Owners Marie Cinquino, Aaron Feinhandler and Izaac Moran are committed to acting as stewards for the Polish Triangle and are working hard to not only keep an eye on the space but work to keep it clean as well.

This comes as a huge benefit (in addition to the quality food they're selling) because the Triangle does quickly become filled with trash and those pigeons. In fact, their business name comes from a 2007 Chicago Reader article that focused on the Polish Triangle.: The Dirty Doorstep of Wicker Park.

The Doorstep is located at the Polish Triangle at the intersection of Ashland/Milwaukee/Division Street. Their hours of operation are: Monday-Friday 6am-5pm. Saturday-Sunday 8am-1pm. For additional information head to their website at: doorstepchicago.com.
