Native Foods Cafe - is OPEN in Wicker Park
Yes, Native Foods Cafe is officially open. We attended the pre-opening VIP parties last week and everything was just great. Nestled between Milwaukee Avenue and Wicker Park proper, Native Foods Cafe's flagship store in Chicago offers vegan organic food, excellent service, fast food (in about 6 minutes) reasonable prices and a menu for food allergy sufferers that includes a wheat, soy and nut-free menu! We also had the pleasure of meeting Chef Tanya herself. She's done a great job and it was terrific - and surprising - to meet her in person. We later learned that Native Foods Cafe has moved their headquarters to Chicago.
On the Honore side of the restaurant, there is a large patio where you can sit and enjoy your food and because it's on Honore and not Milwaukee Avenue, it's relaxing.
Native Foods Cafe offers a wide variety to choose from. We had the fish tacos and know other folks who had tried - and loved - the portobello sausage sandwich. Even the young children devoured the food. What can you expect to find? Delicious organic and healthy food options that are served quickly and with excellent service.

The History of Native Foods Cafe
Once upon a time, Burger King stood at the corner of Milwaukee and Honore. How times change! The Burger King has been long gone for a number of years. And soon to be replacing it? Native Foods Cafe. Native Foods Cafe will be an organic/vegan/vegetarian restaurant designed to meet the needs of today's discriminating, health-conscious diners looking for great-tasting food---for both vegetarians and meat-eaters alike.
Native Foods was originally founded 15 years ago by acclaimed vegan chef, Tanya Petrovna.
Chef Tanya's roots are firmly grounded in the gourmet world. Her idea for a vegan/vegetarian restaurant came to her at a very young age. On one of her family vacations on a farm, she met and pet, a dairy cow. Her love of animals grew. So Tanya's quest began: how to maintain a healthy, balanced, nutritious diet using 100% plant-based foods.
The result is Native Foods – delicious, healthy, fun food that honors the environment and harms not a single animal in the making.
Chef-crafted is Tanya's mantra: fresh and local foods using organic ingredients whenever possible. Homemade each day. Her vision: share the flavor and love with the world--both vegans and non-vegans alike.
