Azzurra Enotavola Opens October 29th in Wicker Park

New Restaurant Opening Alert: We reported earlier that a brand new Italian restaurant was moving in to the space previously the home of Gunner's at 1467 N. Milwaukee Avenue. Gunner's closed up shop almost a year ago and Azzurra Enotavola is preparing to open their doors early this week.

Owner Marty Fosse has owned a number of restaurants throughout the city according to a report published by Crain's Chicago Business. But Fosse has not owned a restaurant yet with friend and partner Ron DiNella; former Chief Financial Officer of Morton's. 

Fosse and Chef Katie Kelly, formerly of Bucktown's The Bristol, have created the seasonal menu. What can you expect to see on the menu? The focus is on fresh local ingredients from farmers markets and Chicago distributors. No plate will cost more than $20 and the wine list will be limited to Italian wines only hand selected by Mr. Fosse.

According to Eater Chicago, the menu looks amazing. Here are the types of dishes you can expect: polenta terrine (with buffalo mozzarella/kale/pork sausage), wild boar sausage, stuffed rainbow trout, and black linguine with shrimp.

Brunch will begin the week of November 2nd and will offer an Italian spin on a Sunday morning favorite including: focaccia benedict, polenta griddle cakes, and Italian sausage frittata.

In an interesting turn of events, the space at 1467 N. Milwaukee Avenue was another Italian restaurant called Cafe Bionda prior to becoming Gunner's several years ago.

Look for Azzurra Enotavola to open tomorrow, Tuesday October 29, 2013.
