Authentaco Opens Today in Wicker Park

Updated August 13, 2014 - Waaaay back in March of 2013 we reported on this cool discovery of a Snappy Service sign under La Pasadita signage at 1141 N. Ashland Avenue. Since that time, Felipe Carpo (owner of Picante & Delish) and team have been working on opening their newest casual Mexican eatery Authentaco.

And that new spot opened quietly today. For the next several weeks, Authentaco will be open 7 days a week from 11am-6pm as part of a soft opening. You'll find tacos, tamales, quesadillas and more. The tiny counter service spot already had customers waiting in line.

In March 2013, we reported on this incredible discovery at 1141 N. Ashland. The La Pasadita location here had been closed and as work was being done to remove the yellow paint, this incredible vintage signage from the 1930's-1940's appeared:Snappy Service System...which happened to be an old hamburger spot.

According to owner and long-time area resident Felipe Carpo (who also owns Picante and Delish), they're keeping the signage as they prepare to open Wicker Park's newest taco spot: Authentaco.

What can you expect at Authentaco? According to a report published this week, Carpo is planning on "sticking to heritage ingredients like huitlacoche. Corn smut. That one dates back to Aztecs, Native American Indians."

You'll also find chicken al pastor and possibly a pop-up window serving doughnuts and churros. No opening date yet for this tiny new spot but we'll keep you posted.
