Judge Rules: Double Door Must Vacate Space By End of 2016

It's the end of an era in Wicker Park. Last month Judge Orville Hambright Jr. ruled that Double Door must vacate their home of 22 years for failure to follow proper protocol to renew their lease. And today, according to the Chicago Tribune, a Cook County Judge ruled that Double Door can stay only until the end of 2016. That's 4-ish short months away. The judge also ruled that Double Door will need to pay a 14% increase in rent ($3,000 per month) through the end of the year. The total amount being paid for the space through 2016 will now be $26,000 a month.

The decision was made in a closed-door hearing, 9 months after property owner Brian Strauss filed for Double Door's eviction at 1572 N. Milwaukee Avenue. Double Door owner, Sean Mulroney, remains optimistic about the club's future. Appealing the ruling is an option and Mulroney told the Trib that "Double Door is not leaving Chicago."
