Double Door Can Stay in Wicker Park...For Now. Judge Rules

November 1, 2016- Wicker Park's Double Door is no longer facing a December 31, 2016 closing date pursuant to a Cook County Circuit Court ruling on Monday.

Double Door attorney Cary Schiff told the Chicago Tribune, “We have the right to continue the appeal unimpeded” by the threat of closure." They have the right to stay in their current location at 1572 N. Milwaukee Avenue "until their appeal rights are exhausted."

An undisclosed appeal bond was set by Cook County Circuit Court Judge Orville Hambright Jr. and will be placed in holding while the hearings continue. The club also will continue to pay $26,000 in monthly rent.

The venue can stay open while owners go before the Appellate Court and give their arguments.

A few weeks ago, Double Door co-owners Joe Shanahan and Sean Mulroney confirmed that they had started negotiations on a move to Logan Square. The venue would be relocating to the historic Logan Square State and Savings Bank building, at 2551 N. Milwaukee Ave.

Until the move, or a decision is reach via the Appellate Court,  the Double Door can continue to operate in its current location of 20+ years at 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave.
