Do Division 2014 Announces 1st Wave of Line Up - High on Fire, J. Mascis
April 3, 2014 - With Lollapalooza and Pitchfork's lineups set, it's time to unleash the city's neighborhood festivals. Do-Division Street Fest & Sidewalk Sale (do-divisionstreetfest.com) kicks off Chicago fest season for an eighth consecutive year May 30ththrough June 1st. Shopping is merely one diversion at the signature West Town music festival booked by Empty Bottle and Subterranean. With three days of non-stop live music on two stages, the $5 suggested donation for admittance is a real steal.
In addition to the bands and shops, Do-Division boasts all the remaining elements of a great Chicago street fest: local restaurants, artisans, and family fun, as well as a dedicated "Do-Fashion" area. Spanning 10 city blocks on Division from Ashland (1400 W. Division) to Leavitt ( 2100 W. Division) the 2014 edition is set to give the 75,000 anticipated attendees a taste of what makes West Division Street one of the hottest neighborhood corridors in Chicago.
The music at Do-Division Street Fest features original bands and DJs continuously on two stages from Friday to Sunday. Music critics and fans alike typically rate the lineup among the best of Chicago's summer music season. This year's wave one band lineups are as follows (more acts and schedule to be announced in subsequent release):
Hoyne Stage: Programmed by Empty Bottle
High On Fire
Bass Drum of Death
People Under The Stairs
Leavitt Stage: Programmed by Subterranean
J Mascis (of Dinosaur Jr)
JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound
The Do-Division Family Fun Fest (Sat - Sun only)
With West Town and Wicker Park continuing its transformation from studio art spaces to sidewalks full of strollers, the festival has grown more family-friendly in stride. Hence, Do-Division Street Fest organizers have partnered with local schools to bring back the renowned Do-Division Family Fun Fest (a fest within a fest). Do-Division Family Fun Fest, which falls on Saturday and Sunday, May 31 - June 1 from noon to 6pm, has become one of the city's premier family-friendly festivals in itself.
This year Do-Division Family Fun Fest will be sponsored in part by Chicago Parent magazine, WeRWPB SSA33, and West Town Chamber of Commerce. It's going to be two blocks jammed packed with family fun including pony rides, trains, music and much more. As always, kids and grown-up kids alike can boogie on down at the Family Stage at Do-Division Family Fun Fest. The Family Stage schedule will be announced in subsequent release.
100% of Proceeds from Do-Division Family Fun Fest go to LaSalle II PTO and Friends of Pritzker School - two local elementary schools.
The Sidewalk Sale and 'Do-Fashion'
The Sidewalk Sale
Division Street between Ashland and Leavitt is packed with salons, spas, cafes, bakeries and boutiques in addition to droves of popular restaurants that can satisfy any craving. Throughout the weekend, many of the local merchants participate in an elaborate sidewalk sale outside their shops that spans the full length of the fest. They will offer great deals on everything from local designer garments to fine hand-made jewelry.
After its overwhelming success in its inaugural year in 2013, Do-Fashion returns for three days dedicated to the latest styles from the Do-Division corridor. Do-Fashion will take place Friday through Sunday on Hoyne Street (just off Division), and feature a who's who of Division Street designer pop-up shops and merchandise. The highlight here will be the Do-Fashion Runway Shows -happening frequently throughout the weekend - showcasing the hottest kids, teen and adult seasonal looks exclusively from the Do-Division corridor.
Do-Fashion participants will be announced in at a later time.
