Part of New Damen, Elston, Fullerton Intersection Reopens Wednesday

As most people know, the intersection at Damen, Elston and Fullerton has been a dangerous, congested and confusing intersection for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists for many years; particularly at rush hour.

But that's all about to change.

The intersection, that accommodates 70,000 drivers daily according to city officials, is being modified so Elston Avenue will intersect Damen Avenue further north bypassing the point where all 6 roads currently intersect. The objective is to enhance safety in that area while reducing congestion due to the slowed flow of traffic.

On Wednesday August 17, 2016 one lane of the reconfigured Elston Avenue will reopen in each direction helping to alleviate traffic congestion as the redesign continues. The lanes will be opened following the morning rush hour according to a news release issued by the Chicago Department of Transportation. Construction is expected to continue until the end of year with a completion date targeted for December 2016.
