Wicker Park - As Governor Pat Quinn signs legislation today making Illinois the 20th state to legalize pot for certain medicinal purposes, Good Intentions LLC at 1723 N. Ashland Avenue is getting ready to open their doors.

According to this report published by Crain's Chicago Business today Good Intentions should be open next week:

Although the law doesn't take effect until Jan. 1, Ms. Jacobi said her clinic does not have to wait for regulations to be issued by the state because it won't dispense or cultivate marijuana or be associated with that end of the business.

"That's not what we do," she said. "We're the first step before anyone gets a card" allowing them to buy up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana every 14 days if they are diagnosed with one of several diseases specified in the bill.

Good Intentions LLC should have their doors open by August 7th.

Hey Champ's roots can be traced outside of Chicago in nearby Rockford, where band members Saam Hagshenas (Vocals, Guitar) and Jonathan Marks (Vocals & Drums) discovered their love of music at a young age. After Saam's graduation from law school, the two reunite in Chicago under the Hey Champ moniker. Needing some additional help on the keys, Jonathan calls up his old Princeton chum Pete. The two met as outsiders at one of those tea and crumpet parties where everyone wears blazers and laughs through clenched teeth The band incorporates influences from disco, house and indie rock, while combining the raw energy of Cheap Trick and the synth-heavy productions of Giorgio Moroder and Trevor Horn.

Wicker Park's New Weekly Food Fest - Nosh - Kicks off Saturday

Michael Hamrick - Monday, July 08, 2013

If you've ever been to Brooklyn then you've heard of Smorgasburg; a weekly food fest/flea market that's packed with 100 food venders. And now we Wicker Park -ers will be getting our own little taste of Smorgasburg according to a report published earlier this week.

The Nosh- as it will be called - is going to take place every Saturday beginning July 13th and will run through October. Approximately 30 venders are currently part of the program and they're not limited to just Chicago eateries. Participants are from all over the Midwest. You'll find everything from Da Lobsta in Streeterville (featuring their lobster rolls) to Tiny But Mighty Popcorn from Iowa.

Everyone will operate out of 10 x 10 tents versus food trucks. There will be no alcohol served since the location is on public school property, vendors only offer 4 items and almost everything will be under $10.

The Nosh is being run by Alan Kannof a Connecticut resident who has lived in Brooklyn for the past 7 years. The one thing this writer likes about Brooklyn's Smorgasburg is that not everyone who wants to participate in Smorgasburg can. They only allow the best of the best. Is that the case at Wicker Park's Nosh? We're not sure but we are sure that duplication of what is being offered will be limited.

Ready to take a taste? The Nosh kicks off July 13th in the parking lot of A.N. Pritzker School - 2009 W. Schiller. It will run from 11am - 6pm every Saturday. And it's free. See you there.

Blackhawk Fans Shut Down North-Damen-Milwaukee Wicker Park

Thyra DeCicco - Tuesday, June 25, 2013

In a huge display of "fanarchy" (coined by Tracey Schwartz of the Chicago Tribune), after the Chicago Blackhawk clinched the Stanley Cup in miraculous win in Boston, fans fill the streets of Wicker Park and Bucktown.

Heading straight for North, Damen and Milwaukee Avenue, fans shut down the intersection for several hours. No chaos or pandemonium; just a lot of ecstatic Blackhawks fans.

See you at the parade.

Win 2 FREE Tickets - Flat Iron 100 Anniversary Party - Saturday

Thyra DeCicco - Friday, June 21, 2013

Wicker Park’s historic Flat Iron Arts Building – home to over 30 artist studios, six small businesses, a Bank of America branch, and Collaboraction Theatre Company – turns 100 years old this year and you can win 2 FREE tickets for their celebration on Saturday June 22nd at 8pm.

Collaboraction has put together a two-night-only performance event featuring 11 original short plays, each based on a specific decade of the Flat Iron’s existence. The project is titled The Decades Project: Celebrating 100 Years of the Flat Iron Arts Building and takes place June 21-22 in Collaboraction’s Room 300 Theater on the 3rd floor of the Flat Iron.

The Decades Project began with a Facebook post by Collaboraction artistic and executive director Anthony Moseley. On March 5, Moseley shared a historic photo of the Milwaukee/Damen/North intersection (published by us!)  that is now home to the building, and asked his Facebook friends what he should do to celebrate the centennial:

The post received more than 80 comments, many of them from playwrights with whom Moseley had previously worked. The result was a fully crowd-sourced idea for a showcase of new plays based on the decades of the building’s existence. In the following weeks, Moseley enlisted 11 playwrights in the project and assigned each a decade. Each will create an original script of 10 minutes or less, and all 11 will be performed, in order, on June 21 and 22.

The Party: The party, including live music and visual art, will begin at 10pm on Friday June 21st, and 8pm on Saturday June 22nd. To win 2 FREE tickets just go our Facebook and Twitter pages to enter (a $50 value). We'll be randomly picking 2 winners for SATURDAY night.
