January 11, 2013
Hello and welcome to this week's edition of
your Insider Weekend Guide.
What's on our radar
for the weekend ahead? A number of restaurant/bar openings for starters
with all featuring different types of food from Russian/Turkish to
Korean. You can also find out which Wicker Park, Bucktown restaurants
are participating in Chicago Restaurant Week (we feature them
each year) and catch a little filming of the Chicago Fire. But that's
not all. We've also included a great real estate deal, information about
one of Wicker Park's coolest vintage shops and an early warning on an
interesting event coming soon to Collaboraction.
Last but not least, we
published an incredible picture of Ashland/Milwaukee/Division circa
1953 earlier this week. It's an amazing shot. And you can see it here: Vintage Polish Triangle.

Wicker Park's Gunner's Shutters
We're very sorry to
report that Wicker Park's Gunner's at 1467 N. Milwaukee Avenue has
closed their doors for good. Although, a sign is posted saying they're
renovating, the paper on the windows, graffiti all over the building and
disconnected phone tell a different story. Gunner's was a great little
neighborhood spot with friendly bartenders and good food. They will be
missed. Gunner's

__REAL ESTATE
Bucktown 2 Bed - 2 Bath Townhome Foreclosure
The good news is we're
seeing fewer and fewer foreclosures in the neighborhood which really
does bode well for both the real estate market and economy overall. This
foreclosure features a tri-level towhome north of Webster for just $224,900.
RESTAURANTS

Almost a year after our initial report, the Red Square Cafe is targeting
Sunday as they're official opening date at 1916 W. Division. Red Square
Cafe will focus on Russian/Turkish small plates with an American twist.
And they're hoping to be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in one of
Wicker Park's most beautiful turn-of-the-century buildings. > Bath House.
The Monarch Opens Tonight
Although
the focus of their PR campaign seems to be about royalty, we see The
Monarch more about transformation. Formerly Uberstein at 1745 W. North
Avenue, The Monarch is launching a brand new restaurant/bar with the
amazing Chef Andrew Brochu. This very talented chef is switching his
focus from Michelin-award winning fine dining to the perfect chicken
wing...but you just know it's going to be good. The official opening is
tonight: The Monarch.
