Bitter Betty Bazaar - Right around the corner from the Renegade Craft Fair, the Bitter Betty Bazaar features handcrafted soaps, jewelry, home decor, accessories, vegan baked goods and more. Innertown Pub, 1935 W. Thomas, 12:00pm-6:00pm.


Farmers Market - Featuring fresh produce, flowers, cheeses and meats, the Wicker Park Farmers Market is open today from 8:00am - 2:00pm. 1425 N. Damen Avenue.


Midnight Circus on the Parks - For the first time ever, the Midnight Circus in the Parks is in Wicker Park this weekend and today will be the final day. Get those tickets while you can. Ticket Information & More. 1425 N. Damen Avenue.


Renegade Craft Fair - The biggest craft fair in Chicago, and a favorite of many, the Renegade Craft Fair is back in Wicker Park this weekend. You'll find plenty of artisans, food, music and more. 11:00am-6:00pm from Paulina to Damen.

He and members of Nirvana, Foo Fighters and Cheap Trick had been at Piece earlier this year and Mr. Grohl made another surprise visit again on Monday.

COMMUNITY

The 8th Annual Free Fountain Decorating Social is Saturday from 10am-4pm. Meet your neighbors while decorating the historic fountain in Wicker Park surrounded by urns. Coffee and water are provided and it's encouraged to bring food to share. Also on Saturday, don't miss The Indoor Family Fun Fest . Fun for all ages, your $45 family ticket helps as a fundraiser for both the park and local wellness programs. 

 

 ENTERTAINMENT
Chill Fest is this Saturday in Wicker Park and features over 100 acoustic acts in bars, restaurants and shops throughout the neighborhood. From 12pm-6pm, you can enjoy music in a 'living room' type setting throughout the neighborhood. Also tomorrow, the free Soul Summit Dance Party ,one of the largest parties in town, heads back to Double Door. Did we mention it's free? 

The Nutcracker opens this weekend at The Chopin Theatre and runs through the holiday season. Don't miss this fresh take on a holiday classic. The New Colony Presents: Kate and Sam Are Not Breaking Up. A comedy focused on Hollywood's hottest couple splitting up for good. FOOD & DRINK 

There's so much restaurant news to share this week. Tonight, from 5pm-7pm Stephanie Izard (Girl and The Goat) will be at Bucktown's Goddess and Grocer to sample her new marinade and sauces. Starland, formerly Ripasso in Bucktown, has announced they've lost their lease and their last day in the neighborhood is Sunday. The Michelin Guide has announced all of their winners for 2014 and Takashi and Schwa are starred once again. Celebrity Chef Rick Bayless shares more details of his new Wicker Park restaurant heading to the former Salud space and Pizza-by-the-Slice is heading into the site formerly Cafe Con Leche in Bucktown.


Put this on your radar: Frontier's Gumbo Cook-off features a head to head competition of amateur and professional chefs alike; many from the neighborhood including: Trenchermen, Takito Kitchen, Red Door and Small Bar are participating. So you know the gumbo will be good. Also this weekend, you can Deck the Halls at Club Lucky. On Saturday, the team at Bucktown's Italian eatery will be creating their winter holiday wonderland with their award-winning decorations. REAL ESTATE NEWS

 
A funny triangular lot at Moorman and Hermitage used to be a fur cleaning business many years ago. Now, 2 "smart" single family homes were just built there and each sold in one day. A sign of the times. Another sign of the times, a brand new development is being built by Noah Properties at 1256 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Wicker Park. The space use to be vacant land. But soon 12 new posh condos will be in its place.


 

RETAIL/SHOPPING


Collector Tom Leahy is hosting a one day sale at a pop up shop on Saturday at 1184 N. Milwaukee Avenue. The One Dale Sale will include: furnitures, toys and lighting will be priced to sell quickly.  Dose Market  continues this Sunday in Wicker Park and the theme of this week's market is: Art Look featuring clothing; coffee, chocolates and more.

Paint for FREE. Looking for the perfect date idea? Head to Arts n Spirits in Bucktown. It's a lot of fun, byob, you'll come home with a cool new piece of artwork and tonight! guys will pay for free. The cost is usually $40 per person. A great deal and great time.

 

COMMUNITY

Plans are progressing to transform The Coyote (Northwest Tower Building) at North-Damen-Milwaukee Avenue into a boutique hotel with as many as 120 rooms. A community meeting was held this week in Wicker Park and plans were approved. The developers behind this project are looking to begin construction in March 2014. 

 

 ENTERTAINMENT
If you see these guys roaming the streets this weekend, they're not really armed...and hunting. The Big Buck Arcade Game World Championship is taking place at the 1st Ward/Chop Shop. Wooden Shjips/Cave/Rabble Rabble head to the Empty Bottle for their rock and roll record release show. Chicago Afrobeat Project returns for another show at Double Door.And the very special 15th Annual All Souls Jazz Festival heads back to The Chopin Theatre. 



FOOD & DRINK 

The Michelin Guide has just announced their 2014 Bib Gourmand Award Winners. Out of 67 winners, 9 are in West Town and 5 are in Wicker Park or Bucktown. A very big congrats to all and an extra special congrats to Mana Food Bar and Mott Street who are first-time winners. If you missed this earlier, lots of people celebrated lawmakers' passing of same-sex marriage in Illinois. However, not everyone was happy. And this person was sure to let The Bongo Room know it.
With a chill in the air and temps possibly heading into the 30's next week, one of our favorite spots for dessert and hot chocolate.



RETAIL/SHOPPING

Palazzo has relocated from Oak Street and Michigan Avenue and recently opened their doors in Bucktown. Featuring the collection of Jane White, Palazzo is hosting a very big sample sale with as much as 70% off. Sale ends November 30th. The Handmade Market which features artisans of all types will be open this Saturday at The Empty Bottle from noon-4pm and  Dose Market  continues this Sunday in Wicker Park. For you deal shoppers, we're keeping our eyes open for amazinggroupon deals. Last week we spotted deals from Jane's, Emporium Arcade, Nature Yoga, Cheetah Gym, Blue Fin sushi and more.

ART GALLERY EXHIBITIONS



Tonight! O Good Lord Opens at Jackson Junge Gallery in Wicker Park. A special holiday exhibition at Jackson Junge Gallery, O Good Lord features a diverse group of artists from around the world. The group exhibit will be on display through January 12, 2014. An opening reception with the artists is scheduled for tonight from 6-9pm. In the spirit of the season, guests are encouraged to dress for the reception in the theme of "Saints & Sinners".

The very last Wicker Park Farmers market was hosted in the park last week. But if you're looking for locally sourced food and products this Winter, you can head North on Milwaukee Avenue to the Logan Square market in its new location. The Indoor Logan Square Farmers Market opens this Sunday.


 

 

 ENTERTAINMENT

A unique Halloween event that's featured every year is the 17th Annual Halloween Bash at Double Door which started last night and continues tonight. On the bill: Janis Joplin, Joan Jett, The Black Keys, Neil Young and more. Also this weekend, Shadow Town continues at The Den Theatre. The production tells the true story of sex trafficking in the Chicago area. Proceeds benefit The Salvation Army Promise Program, Anne's House and the Dreamcatcher Foundation.

Underdog Returns to Flash Taco Basement

FOOD-  Underdogg Returns.Wicker Park's Underdogg closed after 20 years in the basement of Flash Taco to become Heat; a gourmet hot dog and sausage spot.Well the space is becoming  Underdog once again (with one less g) and they're looking  to re-open this month.  A little Insider scoop: there's an incredible seafood place in Wicker Park/East Village that's byob. Reasonable, delicious and very much off the radar of most Wicker Park and Bucktown residents.

 

These 2 delicious food specials should be on your radar. On Wednesday nights, Trenchermen offers a $10 burger deal and The Savoy offers a fish fry. The details.

Mango, an adorable little grocery store, is also setting up shop at LeMoyne and Western Avenue. Their focus is on organic items, milk, ice cream and some packaged goods. 

Dose Market  is back this weekend and will be filled with local businesses, food, sweets, jewelry, garments, housewares and more at The Chop Shop/ 1st Ward space at 2033 W. North Avenue. They're open Sundays from 10am-4pm.

Riverside Cafe is hosting their Annual Pumpkin Patch through Halloween filled with gourds, corn stalks, Indian corn, hay and of course, lots of pumpkins.Everything is provided by a local farmer and it's right in Bucktown.So grab breakfast or lunch in the cafe and then head to the garden. The very last Wicker Park Farmers Market of the season is this Sunday and is open from 8am - 2pm featuring fresh produce, cheese, meat, baked goods, flowers and more. It's the final, as in very last, week. Don't miss it. 

Last but not least Boo-Palooza heads back to Wicker Park proper this weekend. There are always lots of fun activities planned for kids. Don't have kids? There's a costume contests & parade for dogs.

In neighborhood news:  Speaking of dogs, last week we sent out an APB looking for a lost dog last seen running down the Kennedy Expressway at Armitage. A facebook search ensued and we're happy to report, Hope has been reunited with her family in Minnesota.

A $40 pass gets you into 4 shows all week long through Halloween. Need your music fix a little sooner? Catch Kid Congo (The Cramps, Nick Cave) this weekend for $10. 


Entertainment: A unique Halloween event that's featured every year, Sidney Friedman is heading to Davenport's on Milwaukee Avenue for Mind Shivers; a magical and mysterious night combining ESP, mind games, premonitions and more. This is Sidney's 15th show and he'll be in Wicker Park for 3 nights this weekend. Also this weekend, The Rocky Horror Picture Show arrives live at The Chopin Theater. This live show delivers the music, drama and camp you've grown to love in the film and it's this weekend only.

FOOD - Wicker Park's Weekly Food Festival  The Nosh is winding down for the season. They will only be open in Wicker Park through this Saturday and this week and they're ending with a bang: Halloween Candy, Hot Apple Cider and lots of great food will be waiting for you. Also in food news, a new Italian restaurant called Azzurra EnoTavola is opening in the location formerly Gunner's in Wicker Park next Tuesday. 

Last but not least The Empty Bottle is hosting a FREE paranormal brunch on Saturday.

The Bucktown Apple Pie Contest heads back to Holstein Park. Possibly the largest contest of its type in the country, over 150 participants battle it out for the coveted title. Plus there are lots of events for kids. The event is free. The pie is not. Riverside Cafe is hosting their Annual Pumpkin Patch filled with gourds, corn stalks, Indian corn, hay and of course, lots of pumpkins. So grab breakfast or lunch in the cafe and then head to the garden. The Wicker Park Farmers Market is back this Sunday and is open from 8am - 2pm featuring fresh produce, cheese, meat, baked goods, flowers and more. The farmers market only runs through October. So you only have 2 weeks left..

Last but not least Boo-Palooza heads back to Wicker Park next weekend. Get those costumes ready.


In neighborhood news:  **Lost Dog Alert** A couple visiting their son in Wicker Park lost their dog. The dog's name is Hope and she was featured on ABC News because she was on the expressway at Armitage and the Kennedy. If you have any information please contact us via our website. Also in neighborhood news, a man was shot early Thursday morning in the 1200 block of N. Wolcott. Police suspect it was gang-related.

 ENTERTAINMENT


Music: Chicago's most fun - and free - dance party heads back to Double Door. Don't miss Soul Summit on Saturday. If you'd like a VIP pass it will cost $10 and guarantees admission to the party. They will only be open in Wicker Park through next Saturday and this week they're hosting "Chili Day" with over a dozen of different types of chilis including Lindy's acclaimed red chili, Interuban Cafe and Pastry Shop's quinoa-black beed-sweet potato chili, Bergsetin's NY Deli's brisket chili Karl Craft Soup's lamb-pinto bean-corn chili and Feed Your Head's vegan chili. Other vendors include: Kuma's Corner, The Salsa Truck, Taco Joint, Bento Box, Head's red BBQ + moreThe Nosh's new hours are Saturday 10am-3pm.

COMMUNITY EVENTS



The Bucktown Apple Pie Contest heads back to Holstein Park. Possibly the largest contest of its type in the country, over 150 participants battle it out for the coveted title. Plus there are lots of events for kids. The event is free. The pie is not. Riverside Cafe is hosting their Annual Pumpkin Patch filled with gourds, corn stalks, Indian corn, hay and of course, lots of pumpkins. So grab breakfast or lunch in the cafe and then head to the garden. The Wicker Park Farmers Market is back this Sunday and is open from 8am - 2pm featuring fresh produce, cheese, meat, baked goods, flowers and more. The farmers market only runs through October. So you only have 2 weeks left..

Last but not least Boo-Palooza heads back to Wicker Park next weekend. Get those costumes ready.


In neighborhood news:  **Lost Dog Alert** A couple visiting their son in Wicker Park lost their dog. The dog's name is Hope and she was featured on ABC News because she was on the expressway at Armitage and the Kennedy. If you have any information please contact us via our website. Also in neighborhood news, a man was shot early Thursday morning in the 1200 block of N. Wolcott. Police suspect it was gang-related.

Nicole Wiesner 'The Balcony' Trap Door Theatre
Music: Tonight Raheem Devaughn arrives at Double Door with a special guest to be announced. Tickets are still available. The show starts at 8:00pm. Also tonight, the Seattle-based five piece band The Moondoggies are playing a show to support their new album at The Empty Bottle. The show starts at 9:30pm.



Theater:  Closing this weekend, The Balcony at The Trap Door Theatre in Bucktown. The Balcony takes place in a Brothel during a bloody revolution. Find out why it's received 4 star reviews. Shadow Town opens at The Den Theater in Wicker Park and tells the story of 4 Chicago area sex trafficked girls through the eyes of their pimp.This original play is based on dozens of interviews with people involved in sex trafficking right here in Chicago.

Food -  In record speed, the Covo Gyro Market space on Milwaukee Avenue has already been leased to a Texas-based chain serving "Gourmet Comfort Food. Look for Max's Wine Dive to open next year. The Chop Shop officially opens today in Wicker Park. So the bar/restaurant/butcher/deli and venue are all now open for business. Remember those amazing gelato-doughnut ice cream sandwiches created by the team at Black Dog Gelato and Glazed & Infused? Well they will be available again later this month.

Last but not least, time is running out to take advantage of Runa's Grand Opening Special. RUNA has officially opened their doors on North Avenue and is offering 30% off your next meal through October 15th. So you better hurry.


Foodie Events: Wicker Park's Weekly Food Festival  The Nosh is back this Saturday but their hours are shorter to accommodate the shorter days ahead.The Nosh's new hours are 10am - 3pm and you'll find The Nosh filled with delicious food like chocolate tamales, empanadas, doughnuts, chili and a whole lot more.
