Western Avenue Closure Feb 7-9 For Bloomingdale Trail Construction Postponed

Michael Hamrick - Wednesday, February 05, 2014

Per The 606 via Twitter: The planned weekend closure of Western Avenue for bridge improvements related to the Bloomingdale Trail construction has been postponed due to weather complications and the relocation of utilities.

The planned closure of Western from February 7-9 was to remove the existing railroad bridge at Bloomingdale Avenue.  The work has not yet been rescheduled.

The current bridge in place at Western and Bloomingdale Avenues causes significant traffic bottlenecking, as concrete piers reduce lane widths as vehicles approach the bridge.

Michael Hamrick - Thursday, December 05, 2013

Wicker Wire: Mayor Emanuel announced this morning at the Logan Square Blue Line El Stop that a huge renovation is in the works for the CTA's Blue Line. "Your New Blue" as the project is called will upgrade 13 tracks, stations and signals as well as eliminate slow zones and add 4G internet connections to the line's subway tunnels.

According to a report published by the Chicago Sun-Times today, the O'Hare Blue Line is the fastest growing of all of the system's lines "so this investment reflects an investment in the city" said Emanuel this morning. The Blue Line will stay open throughout the project. Stations may see temporary closures and closures over the weekends but the line cannot be closed because closing a line to the airport isn't possible.

The project is expected to take 4 years to complete and is also expected to cost $492 million dollars.

The first stations to be impacted will be: Damen, Western and California. However no start date has been announced.
