Mario Lopez Makes Appearance At Wicker Park's Saved By The Max

Michael Hamrick - Saturday, September 03, 2016

Had to cruise by this SBTB diner while in town... #Chicago

A video posted by Mario Lopez (@mariolopezextra) on

Wicker Park's pop up bar/restaurant Saved By The Max pays homage to the beloved sitcom Saved By The Bell. The diner located at 1941 W. North Avenue has been painstakingly recreated to provide diners with a trip back in time ... and right down memory lane. Reservations sold out immediately and the pop-up's stay was extended through the end of the year.

As part of their promotion at the launch of the opening, the team behind the Wicker Park hot spot promised possible guest appearances by actors featured in the show. And they did not disappoint. Saved By The Bell's A. C Slater  (and now tv celeb) Mario Lopez made a very surprise appearance late last night surprising diners and capturing the moments through photos and video on Lopez's Instagram account.

Owners Jess and Tim Canning, have announced they are opening Wicker Park's newest coffee shop early next month. But it won't be a regular old coffee shop. This new eatery will focus on traditional British treats, scones. And you'll find many different types at Scone City. According to a report published earlier by Chicago Magazine, you'll find sweet and savory versions of these light & buttery treats including 8 to 10 different flavors daily. Think triple chocolate or blueberry with lemon glaze. Savory flavors will include: hot dog and brie & honey. You will also be able to add: clotted cream, lemon curd and salted caramel drizzle.

The scones will be made at Lemon Tree Grocer in Downers Grove (where Tim is a co-owner) and transported to Wicker Park when the shop first opens with plans to potentially add space for a restaurant and pastry chef in-house at a later time.

The coffee will be provided by Halfwit Coffee Roasters.

Look for Scone City to open April 1st at 1632 W. Division Street in Wicker Park. Ph: 773-904-8722.

Street Sweeping Begins Tomorrow April 1st

Michael Hamrick - Tuesday, March 31, 2015

Spring is here and we couldn't be happier. But that also means, if you're not careful, you may be hit with a Chicago fine. Two instances that you should be aware of include:

Dog License Laws

We in Wicker Park & Bucktown certainly do love and embrace our dogs. But you may not be aware of the fact that your dog must be registered with the City of Chicago to stay at dog boarding and daycare facilities and/or to play in a dog park. If you haven't registered your pooch yet. You may want to. Dog parks like Wicker Park's dog park on the South end of the park at  1425 N. Damen Avenue and Churchill Park at 1825 N. Damen Avenue could receive surprise visits from animal control.

For additional information: How To Register Your Dog.

Street Sweeping Fines

April marks the beginning of Chicago's street sweeping season. So if you don't want to get a ticket be sure to be aware of street sweeping schedules and check the signs posted on streets...especially those side streets. You can find the schedule by Ward right here. Alderman Moreno also offers a text messaging reminder for the 1st Ward. So sign up if you're likely to forget. It can save you big bucks.
