4 Armed Robberies Reported in Austin, Wicker Park

Wicker Wire: Police are warning area residents about a number of robberies that happened in both the Austin and Wicker Park neighborhoods early this morning. Unfortunately, there is very little information about the assailants. According to reports, however, a group of young men between the ages of 14-23 jumped out of a white or gray Chevrolet Malibu in the block of 1800 W. North Avenue just before 4am robbing a victim at gunpoint in Wicker Park. Approximately 4-6 men were involved in this robbery.

Wicker Park Party Ends With Shooting

Wicker Wire: The Chicago Sun Times is reporting a man was shot while at a party in Wicker Park early Saturday morning. The party was being hosted in the block of 1900 W. Division Street. And, at approximately, 3:15am someone opened fire shooting a 21-year-old in the foot. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was reported to be in good condition.

Community Alert Issued By CPD For Bucktown

The Chicago Police Department has issued a Community Alert for the Wicker Park, Bucktown neighborhoods due to an increase in the number of residential burglaries during the month of March. According to the alert, the unknown offender(s) gained access through a rear door.


Incidents Were Reported At The Following Locations:

Block of 2000 W. Dickens March 12, 2015 between 12:00pm-8:00pm

Block of 2000 N. Leavitt March 12, 2015 at 5:00pm

Block of 2000 N. Leavitt March 14, 2015 at 2:00pm


Clearly the incidents are occurring within close proximity to each other. Please be vigilant. Should you see any suspicious conduct, report it through 911.

Keep all windows and doors locked and alert your neighbors.

2 Wicker Park Bank Robberies in 2 Days

Two Wicker Park banks directly across the street from each other were robbed within a 36 hour period according to the Chicago FBI.

On Friday, January 9th, North Community Bank at 1555 N. Damen Avenue was robbed at approximately 9:45am. A grainy photo below was distributed by the FBI. The suspect is described as a black male 25-30 years old 5' 5" - 5' 7" wearing a gray hoodie, jeans and black mask. A black gun was used in the robbery.

On Saturday January 10th at approximately 12:45pm, Bank of America, directly across the street at 1585 N. Milwaukee Avenue was also robbed. The suspect is a white male 5'8" -6'. The man pictured below is a suspect in today's robbery. He is also a suspect in a bank robbery occurring at PNC Bank, 2100 W. Chicago Avenue and an attempted robbery at Chase Bank 1959 W. Division Street.

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information about this individual.

Bully Bandit Strikes Again in Wicker Park

The bully bandit has returned to the area after a year and has once again robbed a local bank; entering and robbing the Chase Bank located at 1959 W. Division Street on Wednesday November 5th.

The FBI is offering a reward of $17,500 for information that leads to the arrest of this robber who got his name from the aggressive way he treats to both customers of the banks and the tellers.

An alert was issued by the FBI today including a description of the suspect. He appears to be a Hispanic male in his late 20's - early 30's approximately 5' 7" with a medium build , black hair, brown eyes, a mustache and thick eyebrows. Witnesses also noted he has at least 4 gold-capped lower teeth. He may work in construction as he appeared to have paint on his hands during one of his robberies.

Blue Line Bus Shuttles This Weekend From Wicker Park to Logan Square

Construction continues on the CTA Blue Line this weekend for Your New Blue, the $492 million dollar project dedicated to station improvements and improved speed on the CTA's O'Hare Blue Line. This weekend, the Blue Line will be not be running from the Damen Avenue Station (1588 N. Damen Avenue) in Wicker Park to the Logan Station (2634 N. Milwaukee Avenue) in Logan Square beginning at 10:00pm on Friday August 22, 2014.

Free bus shuttles will be available between the Logan and Damen stations this weekend. The Blue Line is expected to reopen between these 2 stations on Monday August 25, 2014 at 4:00am.

If it's anything like it was earlier this month, expect delays on Milwaukee, North and Western Avenue. Not only were delays encountered between stops due to the bus shuttles but traffic was slowed at North-Damen-Milwaukee and on Western Avenue due to road closures. We will update this information with road closures when they become available.

Wicker Park - Bucktown Traffic Alert This Weekend

This weekend marks the 11th Annual Wicker Park Fest, so the neighborhood will be packed with festival attendees. In addition, a number of parking restrictions will in place effective today, Friday July 25th through Monday morning July 28th. Many streets will be closed altogether (like Milwaukee Avenue). 

And if you're planning on taking the Blue Line to Wicker Park Fest, the Blue Line train will be closed from the Logan Square Station (2620 N. Kedzie)  to the Western Avenue Station (1900 N. Western Avenue) for "Your New Blue" construction with bus shuttles in place from 10pm tonight until 4am Monday morning.  

You may want to add a little extra time this weekend if you're driving or taking the el in Wicker Park and Bucktown ... or consider different options, like biking, instead.

Police Warn of Violent Robberies in West Town

The Chicago Police Department is warning area residents of violent robberies happening in the West Town neighborhood according to a report published earlier by the Chicago Sun-Times. 

Two robberies occurred last Sunday. The first happened at approximately 12:00am in the block of 2200 W. Superior Street . The second happened 4 hours later in the block of 1400 W. Chicago Avenue. According to a community alert issued the Chicago Police in both instances, the suspect approached the person from behind, hit them in the back of the head and took their belongings.

Police Warn of Violent Crimes in West Town [Chicago Sun-Times]

Division Bridge Closed Through September

According to a notice issued by Alderman Waguespak today, the Division Bridge at Division Street and Elston Avenue will be closed beginning tonight April 11th. Work to remove and replace the bridge will begin on June 1st and is expected to continue through September 30th depending upon weather and additional circumstances that arise throughout the project.

The following detours will be in place effective today: 


Westbound

  • Trucks and cars: Division Street west to North Halsted Street, south on North Halsted Street to Chicago Avenue, west on Chicago Avenue to North Ashland Avenue, north on North Ashland Avenue to Division Street.
Buses:
  •  Division Street west to North Halsted Street, south on North Halsted Street to North Branch Street, north on North Branch street to Cherry Avenue, north on Cherry Avenue to Division Street.
Eastbound:
  • Trucks and cars: Division Street to North Ashland Avenue, south on North Halsted Street to Division Street.
Buses:
  • Division Street east to Cherry Avenue, south on Cherry Avenue to North Branch Street, south on North Branch Street to North Halsted Street, north on North Halsted Street to Division Street.
