Wicker Park's Emporium Arcade Opens Today at 5pm

Thyra DeCicco - Tuesday, June 19, 2012
Updated: June 17 2012

Wicker Park's highly anticipated new bar-cade opens today at 1366 N. Milwaukee Avenue. Last Saturday at 5pm, Emporium Arcade opened their doors for an early preview for anxious fans and did a test run so to speak. But doors were closed again Sunday/Monday and will officially open again on Tuesday at 5:00pm; this time for good.

Emporium will be open Monday-Friday 5 p.m.-2 a.m., and will open on weekends at 12 p.m. Saturdays they stay open until 3 a.m. No food is being served but there are plenty of spots to grab food along the way. So come prepared with something to nosh. No quarters required. Emporium has a machine that provides custom tokens.

We were allowed a quick sneak peek last week and here's what we can share.

You'll immediately feel how spacious this new bar is with its capacity being close to 200 people at any one point in time. The large wood bar is front and center but without a kitchen or office needing to take up space, there is plenty of room for pinball machines.

And there are many lining the perimeter of Emporium. Tables and chairs fill the room you so if you're not playing a game, you can hang out with your friends and still have fun. The hardwood floors, tiled bathrooms and silver tin ceiling make you feel like you're in a spot that's a little more upscale than your average arcade.

With just the finishing touches still to be done, it won't take long for Emporium Arcade to open their doors. As of writing this, still no liquor in the bar - and that's just got to happen first. So hang in there and look for Emporium Arcade to open very very soon.

Emporium Arcade offers a combination of beer and arcade games. Over 35 arcade games and pinball machines will be available from the 1970s to 1990s. They will also offer 20+ craft beers on tap and a full bar. Prices will be retro too which games being about $.25 to play. Although they won't serve food, you're more than welcome to bring it in to the bar.

Want to see the current list of games that will be there? GAMES

Milwaukee Avenue - Wood Street Intersection Getting Redesign

As residents of Wicker Park for 7+ years, we can attest to the fact that this intersection is the most dangerous in the neighborhood for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians...and we are excited to report that at long last ... this intersection is getting a much needed make-over. The redesign will remove the island on the northeast side (where so many pedestrians get stuck) and enable a better overall flow of traffic. Steve Vance of Grid Chicago does an excellent job of outlining the issues/solutions. Redesign.
