Don't miss the 5th Annual Green Music Fest at Damen Avenue between North and Schiller, adjacent to Wicker Park (1425 N. Damen). For just $5 you can catch music all day long. It doesn't look like there will be another Dinosaur Jr. appearance this year. This year's line up includes: Manchester Orchestra, Into It. Over It., Everest, Ha Ha Tonka, Joe Pug, and a Talking Heads cover band named This Must Be The Band.

The green technology-themed event combines cutting edge, environmentally-conscious bands with green vendors and activities.

What can you find at the Green Music Fest? Food, fun and of course, great music. In addition the to the great music, food and drink, there are also many activities for kids throughout the day.

 

 

 

 

The Green Theme

The  Green Music Fest is an opportunity for thousands of people who care for the environment to unite to enjoy high quality music and discover new ways to go "green." There will be local retail, art and craft vendors, plus a green vendor village.

With the support of the City of Chicago Department of Environment's Chicago Center for Green Technology, who is sponsoring the green section of the event, an estimated 60-plus vendors and sponsors will participate in the second annual Green Music Fest. The event will also be produced in the most eco-friendly way possible with bio-diesel fuel operated generators, biodegradable plastic cups, recycling and composting options, free bike valet courtesy of Active Transportation Alliance and Special Service Area 29, and much more. Wicker Park Fest 2013 Announces 2 Headliners

Wicker Park Fest 2013 is just around the corner. Festival times are 12:00pm - 10:00pm Saturday and Sunday. Music starts at 1pm and Milwaukee Avenue will be fill with food, drink, shopping and more. There will also be designated areas for kids activities.

The first wave of the Wicker Park Fest line up has been announced and includes: Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and the American indie pop band Cults as two of the headliners for this year's fest. Also part of the "first wave" announcement are Man Man, Bahamas and Roky Erickson.

Updated April 5, 2013  - Wicker Park's Do Division Fest includes a variety of great bands, fantastic food, retailers and shopping.  Sidewalk sales fill the perimeter of the area and the extra-wide side walks allow plenty of al fresco dining at the incredible area bars, restaurants and bakeries ... in addition to all of the food being served directly at the fest itself.The fest has evolved over time to include more family friendly activities too like face painting for kids

 

The Music

The music at Do-Division Street Fest features original, live bands and dj's continuously on two stages throughout the weekend. Music critics and fans alike typically rate the lineup among the best of the music fest season – and at a fraction of the cost of other powerhouses ($5 suggested donation).

Another busy weekend is on the agenda in Wicker Park & Bucktown with Wicker Park Fest heading to Milwaukee Avenue. This year's fest will be the biggest to date with the festival extending from North Avenue to Paulina Street. Traditionally, the fest has ended at Wood/Wolcott. If you're there and take photos, feel free to send them to us. We may just publish them and you'll get full credit. But there's more. We also have lots of great community events happening throughout the neighborhood, art exhibition openings, fundraisers, news and more.

Cap The Violence - Pile On The Sexy- Tonight

In her new exhibit of watercolors and hand-sewn hair drawings, Cap the Violence; Pile on the Sexy, Rosemary Meza-DesPlas reflects with humor and sensitivity on violence, the sexy and femininity. Fat Pour to Open in August

In record speed, the Big Onion Tavern Group has stepped in to what was previously Adobo Grill at 2005 W. Division Street and is creating a new sports-focused establishment with a focus on import, domestic, specialty and craft beer that will be available in 2 sizes: the pint and the Fat Pour. Gourmet pizza and burgers will also be served. Look for Fat Pour to open in August.

Farmers Markets

Just a friendly reminder that Wicker Park plays host to 2 farmers markets each week. Every Thursday you can catch the Polish Triangle market located at Divsion/Milwaukee/Ashland from 3pm -7pm and on Sundays, don't miss the annual Wicker Park Farmers Market located in the park. Farmers Markets.




Last Call Sale/Street Fest Announced

The group behind Do Division has announced that the traditional year end sidewalk sale that takes place each August has expanded into a year-end event including music & family entertainment. Th event will be centrally located at Hermitage & Division. For initial information regarding the Last Call Street Fest.



Movies in the Park - Raiders of the Lost Ark

They're back! Last month ET was featured in Wicker Park proper and approximately 2,000 people attended - including us! This month, don't miss Raiders of the Lost Ark heading back to Wicker Park next week. Movies start at dusk. You may want to head there a little early to get a great seat. Magic Boat Puppet Show in the Park
Quickly becoming a regular Summer event and fun for young and old alike, please join The Magic Boat Puppet Show at the Wicker Park Playground - 1425 N. Damen Avenue - this Sunday morning at 11am. Magic Boat.


 

Wicker Mic - Open Mic

Performers! Come out and perform your songs, poetry and stand up, or just enjoy listening at the outdoor open mic in Wicker Park this Friday from 6-9pm. Sign-up on the day of the event at 5pm. Each slot is 5 minutes (2 songs, 3 poems or 5 minutes of stand up). The weather should be cooperating. Wicker Mic.

 

 

Wicker Park Historic Walking Tour

If you've been to Wicker Park, you know how stunning the architecture is. The Chicago Architecture Foundation agrees and is hosting a Historic Walking Tour this Summer throughout the neighborhood. As many know, one of Chicago's most famous music venues - Double Door - is just steps away from all of the action at Wicker Park Fest. This weekend they're opening their doors at noon on Saturday. So if you'd like to step out of the heat and into a little a/c they'll be open and there's no cover. If you've never been to Double Door, you should go. There's a reason the Rolling Stones asked to play there. That's right. The Rolling Stones asked if they could play Double Door. WHACAIPF.

 

 

Wicker Park Fest - Saturday & Sunday

Now Open - The Savoy


Wicker Park's newest seafood restaurant & raw bar opened their doors this past Monday at 1408 N. Milwaukee Avenue. Not only is The Savoy opened for dinner. They're also open for lunch. We're hoping to make it there next week. In the interim, for details: The Savoy.

 

Pizano's Deep Dish Update

In Wicker Park & Bucktown, we have a number of different pizza restaurants but they're all very different...and good. Gratto, for example, specializes in rustic Italian and it's fantastic. Pizza Metro's roots are in Rome. Piece's specialty is New Haven-style. And now Pizano's, who will focus on deep dish, is heading to Division Street. Hoping to open last June/July, Pizano's is working hard to open in August. Fingers are crossed. Pizano's.

 

 

WXRT Lobster Bash

In partnership with Supreme Lobster Co, Executive Chef Troy Graves celebrates Summer by hosting WXRT's and Supreme Lobster's Rockin Lobster Bash at Red Door in Bucktown - 2118 N. Damen Avenue next Tuesday July 31st.  Incredibly talented chefs like Mindy Segal (Hot Chocolate), Mark Steuer (The Bedford) and the Sheerin Brothers (The Trenchermen) will be participating. When we first published this event on Twitter we said: Girl In A Coma Heads to Double Door. One of our fabulous twitter followers responded: "True but that probably sounds little different than you intended". Duly noted. So, San Antonio's amazing "Girl In A Coma" is playing at the Double Door tonight. If you haven't gotten your tickets, do it now. Wicker Park Fest 2012 is this weekend. The Fest will be July 28th and July 29th and for the first time in its history be located between North Avenue (1600 N. Milwaukee Avenue) and Paulina Street (1250 N. Milwaukee Avenue) in Wicker Park .  The festival times are 12:00pm - 10:00pm Saturday and Sunday. Food, drink and music are waiting for you.

If you're looking for local acts, head to the center stage where Kill Hannah will don the eyeliner and play July 28 and the always working Joe Pug performs July 29. The North and South stages are reserved for the national touring acts like Lucero, Cursive, The Drums and The Budos Band.

The festival is adding two new arts sections this year. Redmoon Theatre is presenting a piece called The Sonic Boom, a massive battery powered vehicle, sculpture, and performance platform. Redmoon performers will activate the two hydraulic performance platforms and mobile DJ booth with spectacle performance and sound pieces, a portion of which will be fully composed in advance and a portion that will be structured for live improvisation during the event. This piece will be on Honore Ave., next to Native Foods, from Milwaukee to the alley.

Defibrillator Gallery will exhibit a series of large-scale inflatable sculptures by local artists Claire Ashley, Marianne Kim, Helmut Heiss, among others, that will be installed each day of the festival and activated with live movement and spectacle based performances. This work will be installed on Wood St. from Milwaukee to Beach St. across from the family area.

Wicker Park Fest - Street Closures This Weekend

 Wicker Park Fest will take place this Saturday & Sunday, July 28th & 29th on Milwaukee Ave, from North Avenue (1600 N. Milwaukee Avenue) to Paulina Street. This is the first year the fest will extend beyond Wolcott/Wood at Milwaukee Avenue and continue as far South as Paulina.


Street Closures for this Weekend Include:
Milwaukee Ave, between North and Paulina, and some intersecting streets (see list below), will be closed to all vehicular traffic and street parking starting at 1am on Saturday, July 28th. Any cars left on the street after 1am on July 28th will be towed at owner’s expense. The street will re-open on Monday, July 30th after 5am. Please be sure to make other arrangements for parking during the weekend.

These portions of the streets that intersect with Milwaukee will also be closed:
• Hermitage St, SW from Milwaukee to alley
• Wood St, SW from Milwaukee to alley
• Wolcott St, SW from Milwaukee to alley
• Wood St, N from Milwaukee to Beach

Hello and welcome to this week's edition of your Insider Weekend Guide.

 

Hope you all had a terrific 4th of July. First and foremost, we'd like to thank everyone who supported our efforts for the small business grant. Not only did we get enough votes to qualify, we exceeded the number we needed by a landslide. So thanks a million for your time -- and votes. We will keep you posted.

 

Secondly, we're catching up this week on a little neighborhood news and more. Lots of restaurants have opened including The Trenchermen, Grass Fed, and Purple Cow Ice Cream and a few new boutiques as well. But that's not all. Lots of great events are taking place this weekend including the Annual Bucktown Garden Walk and party at Club Lucky. Jerry's is celebrating 5 years all weekend long. The amazing J. Davis Trio is also playing at Double Door and Wicker Park Fest is just around the corner. So be sure to mark your calendars.

Bucktown Garden Walk & Party

It's time again this weekend for the Annual Bucktown Garden Walk from 11am - 5pm rain or shine. Each year over 700 attendees explore the 100+ gardens of Bucktown. Don't miss this neighborhood fundraiser & party at Club Lucky (the location of the welcome tables) at 1824 W. Wabansia. Farmers Markets

Just a friendly reminder that there are 2 Farmers Markets in the neighborhood; the one on Sunday in Wicker Park proper at 1425 N. Damen Avenue and one on Thursdays in the Polish Triangle at Milwaukee/Division/Ashland. Fifty/50 Team Opens The Homestead

Owners of Wicker Park's The Fifty/50 have done it again. In addition to The Fifty/50, Bleeding Heart Bakery and Roots, this team has recently opened the new seasonal rooftop spot in West Town called The Homestead. The Homestead officially opened their doors this week and will feature farm fresh fare and a menu of predominantly small plates. For additional information: The Homestead.

 

 

Grass Fed's Soft Opening

Grass Fed has opened their doors (via a soft opening) in the space formerly the home of Caffe de Luca at 1721 N. Damen Avenue in Bucktown. What can you find here? Steak, steak and more steak. Seriously. There's one option on the menu: sirloin. And it's served with a salad and fries for $25. Vegetarians fear not. There's an off-the-menu option for you too. Jerry's 5 Year Anniversary Party

With seating for approximately 50, Oiistar is heading to Milwaukee Avenue with a focus on ramen dishes. The Savoy Opening Delayed

Wicker Park's newest seafood/raw/absinthe restaurant - The Savoy - has said there will be about a week delay for their opening. Their goal is to open next weekend and worst case scenario by the end of July. The Savoy has moved into the space formerly La Fonda del Gusto at 1408 N. Milwaukee Avenue. The Trenchermen is Open

The Trenchermen is officially open at 2039 W. North Avenue in Wicker Park. Reviews to date have been excellent. Expect a slight delay in brunch however.
