The Bloomingdale Trail Becomes The 606

Thyra DeCicco - Tuesday, June 18, 2013
Bucktown - The final plans for the Bloomingdale Trail have been announced as part of a new project that will now be referred to as The 606. What is The 606? According to their brand new website, this park and trail system brings together elevated trails for bikers and runners, art installations, and creative plantings and design to create an urban oasis and a new way to explore Chicago.

The 606 – named for the 606 zip code prefix all Chicagoans share – includes the nearly three-mile elevated Bloomingdale Trail and the five ground-level neighborhood parks that will be linked to it. Two new parks will be created, and three existing parks will see improvements, including trail access. This park and trail system runs along Bloomingdale Ave (1800 N), from Ridgeway Ave (3750 W) on the west to Ashland Ave (1600 W) on the east, and will eventually extend east to the Chicago River.

The project connects the Bucktown, Wicker Park, Logan Square, and Humboldt Park neighborhoods on Chicago's Northwest side.

Groundbreaking on the trail is scheduled for this summer, and the first phase of the project will open in the fall of 2014.
