 RESTAURANT NEWS

Photo: Enhakkore's sashimi-bap. 14 different kinds of vegetables. 5 kinds of sashimi plus rice.... and a very spicy chili sauce. #bucktown

Restaurant Reviews - We've recently enjoyed 2 Bucktown spots and want to share our experiences. First, En Hakkore opened in January and serves Korean street food. It's fresh, good and the prices are very reasonable. We tried the pork tacos and sashimi bap. Both were delicious and we will be heading back soon.

Another new Bucktown spot: Pizza House 1647. The ambiance is welcoming, the service was great and the food was solid. In a neighborhood packed with pizza options, it's tough to be a 'destination' but this style of thin crust hit the spot and the slices are reasonable.

Bucktown's Dangerous Intersection at Elston - Fullerton - Damen Finally Getting Revamp

Michael Hamrick - Thursday, April 11, 2013
Bucktown April 11, 2013

This project has been in the works for almost 10 years but this very busy, congested and dangerous intersection is finally getting a revamp. Officials announced Wednesday that work will begin next year with the revamp being completed in 2015.

Emanuel intends to acquire nine parcels of land to re-route Elston. Instead of being a diagonal street that parallels the interstate, the avenue would take a big turn north of Fullerton. Elston also would turn at Damen and go directly south in the other direction. The plans also include an improved bike lane.

The Elston - Fullerton - Damen intersection ranks as one of the top 5 in the country for accidents.

We've been keeping our eye on this stunning turn-of-the-century building for a while. And if you've ever walked past Damen and Schiller, you've walked right past this 6,000 square foot residence on the park. The combination of updating required and slow real estate market pushed this landmark into foreclosure. But this year? It just sold well over asking at over $900,000.

Street Sweeping Starts Today -- Avoid Those Tickets

Michael Hamrick - Monday, April 01, 2013

Spring is here and we couldn't be happier. But that also means there are 2 opportunities for fines right around the corner that you can avoid.

Dog License Laws

We in Wicker Park & Bucktown certainly do love and embrace our dogs. With that in mind, you may want to know that the city is going to start stepping up its enforcement of license laws in May. So if you haven't registered your pooch yet. You may want to. Dog parks like Wicker Park's dog park on the South end of the park at  1425 N. Damen Avenue and Churchill Park at 1825 N. Damen Avenue could receive surprise visits from animal control.

See Chicago Cracking Down on Dog Licenses- Chicago Sun-Times

Street Sweeping Fines

April marks the beginning of Chicago's street sweeping season. So if you don't want to get a ticket be sure to be aware of street sweeping schedules. You can find the schedule by Ward right here. Alderman Moreno offers a text messaging reminder. So sign up if you're likely to forget. It can save you big bucks.
