Wicker Park Bucktown Insider's Guide

Glazed & Infused Heads to Wicker Park's Francesca's Forno

Michael Hamrick - Saturday, March 31, 2012

Wicker Park's Glazed and Infused

When Francesca's Forno closed at 1576 N. Milwaukee Avenue to remodel their restaurant and revamp their menu last year it was reported that owner, Scott Harris, was also planning on opening a doughnut shop there.

Apparently that day has come. Chicagoist is reporting the Francesca's Forno will, in fact, be serving doughnuts via their alter-ego Glazed and Infused in the very near future. Although Harris will be opening up spots in a few CTA stations throughout the city, the Francesca's Forno spot in Wicker Park will be the first to open mid- April.

The doughnuts will be served through a window across from the entrance to the Damen Blue Line stop. Glazed and Infused will be open early.... and late. They will be open early morning (6:30-10:30 a.m. on weekdays, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. on weekends) and also late at night, from 10 p.m. - 2:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

Doughnuts prices will range from $2.75-$5. You can also buy coffee from Intelligentsia.

What type of doughnuts can you find? Sounds like they'll be serving up everything from the old-fashioned doughnuts to creme brulee doughnuts to the maple bacon long john, with an entire strip of bacon on top.

Just goes to show, you really can put bacon on everything.

Wicker Park's Fat Pour To Open in July

Thyra DeCicco - Friday, March 30, 2012

March 30 2012- Updated

We just talked to the folks behind the highly anticipated Fat Pour (who are also behind the very successful 404 Wine Bar Co, Jack's Bar & Grill and the Irish Oak).

Fat Pour will be moving in to the space formerly vacated by Adobo Grill at 2005 W. Division Street this Summer. Here is what we know:

Fat Pour is expected to be a combination of sports bar and beer hall. Although construction just started 3-4 weeks ago, progress is being made very quickly and the outdoor patio permit is already in the works. The new bar is scheduled to open now as early as mid-July of this year.

What you can expect:

Unlike Adobo Grill, Fat Pour is taking over 7,000 square feet and 2 floors of space. The feel will be vintage and "lofty" with booths throughout. Fat Pour will be serving an assortment of import, domestic, specialty and craft beer that will be available in 2 sizes: the pint and the Fat Pour.  And for food you can expect gourmet pizza and burgers.

The space will include a 2-story glass-encased keg room and full bars will be on both floors. Private and semi-private rooms will be available for special events and 4 table tap booths are available to rent.

When we asked about the tvs (for sports viewing) we were told the plans for those are still in the works but it sounds like something innovative may be heading our way.

Wicker Park Athletic Club May Open As Early As April

Thyra DeCicco - Wednesday, March 28, 2012

We reported several months ago that a new Chicago Athletic Gym was moving in to Wicker Park at 1635 W. Division (Division and Marshfield). A week or so ago the team behind the new gym thought they would be opening in early May.

But in a call this morning, they feel it could be opening as early as the end of April.  This will come as a welcome news to the many who signed up in January & February.

Chicago Athletic Club currently has locations in: Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Evanston, Lincoln Square and the West Loop.

They're offering a $49/month rate if you sign on for a year.

Additional details are here: Wicker Park Athletic Club.

But that's not all. Chicago Athletic Club is also working on their new location in Bucktown.

This location is a little slower to come to fruition because it will be housed in the historic Marvin Envelope Company at 2040 W. North Avenue; right in between Cheetah Gym and Bucktown Fitness.

Chicago Athletic Club is hoping to gain approval for a pool at the Bucktown location but that's still in the works.
