Tipsycake has officially opened in Bucktown. Their cakes are not only delicious, they are truly works of art. Tipsycake also offers classes and afternoon tea daily from 2pm -5pm. Reservations are recommended. We also want to recognize Santullo's this week. When we asked our viewers who had the best pizza in the neighborhood, Santullo's came in a very respectable 2nd place. They also recently received very positive feedback from The Michelin Guide and they're running a "Happy Hour Special" Monday - Friday.  Last but not least, Chicago Food Planet is hosting neighborhood tours through November 26th. They've been selling out quickly. So if you - or anyone you know - might be interested be sure to sign up.

Wicker Park & Bucktown Make USA Today's Top 10 List

Thyra DeCicco - Wednesday, August 17, 2011

According to USA Today, August 8, 2011:

Many of the nation's urban areas are booming with new restaurants, parks and condos. Richard Florida , who studies urban trends, says much has changed in the last decade. "It was almost as if someone stepped on the accelerator," says the senior editor for The Atlantic magazine and a professor at the University of Toronto.

All these areas are great to visit, he says, offering a slice of local urban life. He shares up-and-coming neighborhoods with Larry Bleiberg  for USA TODAY.

There are many fantastic community events happening in the neighborhood this week. That's the good news. The bad news is that August marks the end of some of our best Summer events. The puppets are back on Sunday for their final performance in Wicker Park and Movies in the Park return for our last Summer movie in Wicker Park at 1425 N. Damen. The week's feature is Scott Pilgrim vs The World. The Polish Triangle Farmers Market continues today from 2pm -8pm and the Built Festival in Bucktown is this Friday/Saturday. Hope everyone had a great time at Lollapalooza last weekend. With Wicker Park Fest being followed by Lollapalooza, the neighborhood has been packed with music and after shows. Although a little calmer, the music continues this week and we're highlighting 2 unique shows for you. Tonight you can catch The Mad Dog Blues; where storytelling meets rock n roll at The Empty Bottle. And next week, don't miss Stiff Little Fingers also known as "The Irish Clash" at Double Door.

    Restaurants

We're sad to report that Earwax Cafe has closed their doors again. A week ago a "closed" sign was hung on the front door and the restaurant was dark. One of our sources told us the staff was informed of the closing only last Wednesday and it appears the owner is looking for a tenant. Stay tuned for additional developments. On a happier note, please join Piece tonight for their 10th Anniversary Celebration. They'll be sharing their Anniversary Ale tonight and the party starts at 8pm. Last but not least, we confirmed with Prasino today that they are on track to open Friday. We've been reporting on Prasino for many months and it's terrific to see them ready to open.

Surprisingly, in a down economy, development continues to move in to the Wicker Park and Bucktown neighborhoods. At the corner of North/Damen/Milwaukee big plans are in the works for Caribou Coffee, Walgreens and AT&T. Additional plans are below. And the delicious and much-beloved Tipsycake hopes to open Friday in Bucktown. Our fingers are crossed!

As always, we are so very lucky to have a wide variety of theater and performing arts options in the neighborhood. This weekend the Magic Parlour continues with Dennis Watkins Friday Night at 10:30pm at The Chopin.  This weekend only, "Suns Out Guns Out" at Gorilla Tango Theatre. All the audience needs to do is to provide a suggestion and a play forms before your very eyes. A Nude Hope continues to sell out early so buy your tickets if you're planning to see that show also at Gorilla Tango Theatre. Wait until the 'day of' and you're probably not going to get a seat. We update our Theatre & Performing Arts section daily. So check in any time to see what's new.
